Fernando Almela

Ausencias y presencias

"Ausencias y Presencias", is a selection of works by Fernando Almela that revolves around the still life, a subject little treated by contemporary artists. This exhibition of paintings and small sculptures shows two essential elements in all classical painting: colour and composition. "In my paintings, the background becomes the figure, not only physically - the preparation of the canvas is left unpainted in this area - but also visually. The whites are the figure of the painting; on the other hand, the visual background of my paintings is what is intervened, what has physical matter, paint", the artist explained in one of his writings. In the catalogue published for the occasion, written by Daniel Verdú Schumann (art critic and lecturer at the Carlos III University in Madrid), manuscripts by the artist himself have been rescued, thanks to the Amela-Solsona Foundation and its director Isabel Urueña.
