Es innegable que desde el principio de los tiempos el arte y la arquitectura han ido de la mano.
Desde la Galería de arte contemporáneo en Valencia Ana Serratosa somos conscientes de esta realidad, y es por ello que mediante este espacio hemos querido abordar de una manera más sosegada la relación que existe entre ambas disciplinas.
Un recorrido histórico visionando la relación entre el arte y la arquitectura
Tanto en el arte como la arquitectura se han creado de manera independiente y con sus normas propias. Pero si echamos la vista atrás en el tiempo, nos damos cuenta de cómo ambas disciplinas se han relacionado siempre en una perfecta simbiosis.
Ya desde la época del Antiguo Egipto, o en tiempos de los antiguos romanos, el arte acompañaba a la arquitectura mediante los murales, los mosaicos y los relieves. Las casas, palacios, templos, o cualquier edificio que se utilizase para la vida pública, se proyectaba desde un primer inicio teniendo en cuenta ambas disciplinas.
Uno de los primeros ejemplos nos lo encontramos en Egipto. Los relieves en las paredes de las tumbas y templos como cumplían tanto funciones religiosas como propagandísticas, ya que con ellas se conseguía mostrar la grandiosidad de los reyes y faraones, así como conducirlos tras su muerte hacia la otra vida.

Otro de los ejemplos más conocidos son las Cariátides del Erecteion. En la Acrópolis de Atenas, en lugar de optar por las típicas columnas rectas que soportasen la carga del edificio, se decidió crear unas esculturas para desempeñar esta función, dotando de este modo al edificio de una mayor personalidad.

Con el tiempo fueron apareciendo otros ejemplos, como sería el genuino trampantojo. En un primer momento esta técnica quizá no fuera concebida como una forma artística, sino más bien como una manera más económica de tener acceso a materiales excesivamente costosos.
Nos referimos a materiales como el mármol o incluso el oro, que en lugar de utilizarse directamente, se simulaba su apariencia mediante la pintura. De este modo se conseguía que grandes paredes o fachadas aparentaran tener un aspecto mucho más deslumbrante, engañando así al ojo del que las observaba.
Posteriormente, este trampantojo se utilizaría en las mismas casas y viviendas particulares. Emulando ventanas o columnas los artesanos de esta técnica conseguían que las estancias pareciesen más amplias, o que contasen con más luminosidad.

Pensar que el trampantojo se quedó en la época antigua es un error, y es que la relación entre arquitectura y arte ha estado presente a lo largo de toda la historia. Los artistas del Gótico continuaron utilizando esta técnica, y en el Renacimiento no solo utilizaban los efectos visuales para la pintura, sino que hicieron uso de ellos por medio de la perspectiva.
Si uno se adentra en la Scala Regia del Palacio Vaticano, se percibe una falsa sensación de más profundidad espacial. Este efecto se consigue por medio de las columnas, que al ir disminuyendo de tamaño progresivamente le otorgan a la escalera una mayor sensación de longitud.

Acercándonos más al presente podemos poner a Gaudí como uno de los mejores ejemplos donde la arquitectura se fusiona con el arte. Edificios como la Casa Batlló, La Pedrera o la Sagrada Familia muestran cómo es imposible definir una línea entre qué es arte, y qué arquitectura.
Piet Mondrian fue otra gran fuente de inspiración para los arquitectos de principios y mediados del s. XX. Sus líneas simples, así como su afición por el uso de los colores primarios terminaron por acuñar “De Stijl”, o, traducido literalmente, “El Estilo”, una estética que terminaría siendo muy relevante en la arquitectura del pasado siglo.

El arte se fusionaba con la arquitectura para crear edificios y urbanismos nunca vistos. Sería sencillo pensar que los edificios que cumplen estas características no pertenecen a un movimiento, o que no proceden de una inspiración artística, pero entonces estarías hablando simplemente de edificios funcionales. Sin embargo, somos conscientes de que la relación entre el arte y la arquitectura va más allá de eso.
La Galería Ana Serratosa creó, en el año 2020, un nuevo concepto de la unión de arquitectura y arte. “Inventando el Espacio 2020: Intimidades Colectivas” marcó un antes y un después en los proyectos de la Galería, así como en la relación que históricamente hemos mantenido entre el concepto de arte y arquitectura dentro de la galería.

El arte no solo nos produce sensaciones, nos emociona o nos plantea debates internos, sino que además nos acompaña en nuestro día a día. Por lo tanto, la cuestión que se nos plantea, y que supuso el germen de todo este proyecto sería cómo hacer que el arte esté presente en nuestra rutina de una manera más activa.
En un edificio histórico del centro de Valencia, rehabilitado y adaptado al tipo de vivienda actual, al mismo tiempo que se respeta la esencia del mismo, se citaron ocho artistas de la Galería Ana Serratosa. Detrás de las grandes puertas que encabezan su entrada nos reciben las intervenciones en las zonas comunes de estos artistas, ofreciendo al visitante un recorrido inesperado.
El recibidor de la entrada, las blancas paredes de la escalera, los huecos del ascensor e incluso las mismas viviendas, se han convertido en escenarios expositivos para estas obras de arte. Espacios donde las piezas se muestran sin peanas, como un elemento más del entorno, consiguiendo así que se democraticen y lleguen de una manera más directa al espectador. Caminar por el interior de este edificio es, sin dudarlo, un paseo por un oasis de calma y arte.

Es por ello que desde la Galería Ana Serratosa, invitamos a la gente a que considere el arte como parte de su vida, al igual que ya lo hace la arquitectura.
Incluir el arte en nuestras estancias, ya sea en paredes, techos o suelo, ya que si el arte nos emociona y nos hace evadirnos de la realidad, dejemos que entre en casa y se quede haciéndonos compañía.

From the Gallery of contemporary art in Valencia Ana Serratosa we are aware of this reality, and that is why through this space we wanted to address in a more calm way the relationship that exists between both disciplines.
A historical journey viewing the relationship between art and architecture
Both art and architecture have been created independently and with their own rules. But if we look back in time, we realize how both disciplines have always been related in a perfect symbiosis.
From the time of Ancient Egypt, or in the time of the ancient Romans, art accompanied architecture through murals, mosaics and reliefs. The houses, palaces, temples, or any building that was used for public life, was projected from the beginning taking into account both disciplines.
One of the first examples is found in Egypt. The reliefs on the walls of the tombs and temples served both religious and propagandistic functions, as they were able to show the grandeur of the kings and pharaohs, as well as lead them after their death to the afterlife.

Another well-known example is the Erecteion Caryatids. In the Acropolis of Athens, instead of opting for the typical straight columns that supported the load of the building, it was decided to create sculptures to perform this function, thus giving the building a greater personality.

Over time other examples were appearing, such as the genuine trickery. At first this technique may not be conceived as an artistic form, but rather as a more economical way of gaining access to excessively expensive materials.
We refer to materials such as marble or even gold, which instead of being used directly, was simulated by painting. In this way, large walls or facades appeared to have a much more dazzling appearance, thus deceiving the eye of the observer.
Later, this trick would be used in the same homes and private homes. Emulating windows or columns, the craftsmen of this technique made the rooms look larger, or more luminous.

To think that the trick remained in ancient times is a mistake, and that the relationship between architecture and art has been present throughout history. Gothic artists continued to use this technique, and in the Renaissance they not only used visual effects for painting, but made use of them through perspective.
If one enters the Scala Regia of the Vatican Palace, a false sense of more spatial depth is perceived. This effect is achieved by means of the columns, which gradually decrease in size giving the ladder a greater sense of length.

Getting closer to the present we can put Gaudí as one of the best examples where architecture merges with art. Buildings like Casa Batlló, La Pedrera or the Sagrada Familia show how it is impossible to define a line between what is art, and what architecture.
Piet Mondrian was another great source of inspiration for the architects of the early and mid s. XX. His simple lines, as well as his fondness for the use of primary colors ended up coining "De Stijl", or, literally translated, "El Estilo", an aesthetic that would end up being very relevant in the architecture of the last century.

Art merged with architecture to create buildings and urban planning never seen before. It would be easy to think that buildings that meet these characteristics do not belong to a movement, or that they do not come from an artistic inspiration, but then you would simply be talking about functional buildings. However, we are aware that the relationship between art and architecture goes beyond that. The Ana Serratosa Gallery created, in 2020, a new concept of the union of architecture and art. "Inventing Space 2020: Collective Intimidations" marked a before and after in the Gallery projects, as well as in the relationship that we have historically maintained between the concept of art and architecture within the gallery.

Art not only produces sensations, thrills us or raises internal debates, but also accompanies us in our day to day. Therefore, the question that is posed to us, and that was the germ of this whole project would be how to make art present in our routine in a more active way.
In a historic building in the center of Valencia, renovated and adapted to the current type of housing, while respecting the essence of it, were cited eight artists of the Ana Serratosa Gallery. Behind the large doors that head its entrance we receive interventions in the common areas of these artists, offering the visitor an unexpected tour.
The entrance hall, the white walls of the staircase, the elevator openings and even the dwellings themselves have become exhibition venues for these works of art. Spaces where the pieces are shown without bases, as one more element of the environment, thus achieving that they are democratized and reach the viewer in a more direct way. Walking inside this building is, without hesitation, a walk through an oasis of calm and art.

That is why from the Ana Serratosa Gallery, we invite people to consider art as part of their life, just as architecture already does.
